DeLAND, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast beach volleyball (9-8) split its Saturday tripleheader at the Stetson Tournament, defeating Southern Miss 3-2 but falling 3-2 to UAB and No. 15 Stetson.
The morning opened with a close 3-2 loss to UAB.
Erin Miller and
Nicole De Oliveira took a quick win on court 2, 21-18, 21-16 for the Eagles.
Emma Soncrant and
Elaina Millaway followed that up with a 21-18, 23-21 win to put FGCU up 2-0, but the Blazers earned wins on courts 1, 3 and 4, including a pair of three-set victories, to take the match 3-2
The Eagles got their win on the day in the early afternoon slot.
Andrea Dietz and
Sydney Majick raced out to a 21-19, 21-9 win, and Soncrant and
Kristina Gluc took care of business, winning 21-16, 21-17.
Alexis Keeter and
Ava Lilliquist won the final and decisive match for FGCU, knocking off the Golden Eagles 19-21, 25-23, 15-13 for the 3-2 win.
The Stetson match featured four three-set battles, the most of any FGCU match this year so far. Dietz and Majick tallied their fourth win of the weekend, winning 21-17, 17-21, 15-10 at flight 3, and Gluc and
Kaitlyn Beck added a 22-20, 18-21, 15-11 win on court 4. The No. 15 Hatters managed to eke out wins on courts 1, 2 and 5 to take the last match of the day.
