JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Off to its best start in program history, the accolades continued to roll in for FGCU baseball on Monday as Jon Embury (Player) and Evan Dempsey (Pitcher) were named the Atlantic Sun Conference's Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

This marks the first career ASUN weekly honor for Embury. For Dempsey, he is named the league's Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Embury might be the hottest hitter in the country right now as the sophomore catcher hit a dominating .529 last week over the course of four games, with a 9-for-17 week at the plate. Of his nine hits, six of them went for extra bases with five of those six being home runs. In total, Embury's five home runs traveled nearly a total of 2,000 feet, averaging almost 400 feet traveled per dinger. Embury scored seven runs, recorded 10 RBIs, drew two walks and hit a sac fly.

A sophomore catcher, Embury accomplished all of that while catching all four games behind the plate, recording 40 putouts and one assist. He threw out a pair of runners attempting to steal. Embury recorded multiple home runs in two different games last week. His 3-for-5 performance at the plate helped FGCU upend Minnesota and his crushing bat guided FGCU to a sweep of Stonehill, marking the sixth consecutive weekend series sweep (dating back to last year).

The reigning ASUN Pitcher of the Week, Dempsey repeated after throwing a complete-game shutout and only issued one walk as he was masterful on the mound last week. The All-American pitcher struck out seven batters over seven innings and allowed only two hits and one walk while facing 24 batters. Nearly 70% of his pitches thrown were strikes in his shutout performance as he earned his first decision of the year while leading FGCU to a 7-0 start for the first time in program history.

FGCU continues its season-opening homestand on Tuesday when Indiana State visits Fort Myers once again in a two-game mid-week series between two of the top mid-major programs in the country. Tickets are on sale for the games on Tuesday and Wednesday, both of which begin at 6:30 p.m.
