CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast (1-7) fell to No. 61 Miami (7-3) 4-0 on Saturday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Miami secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Jakub Kroslak and Antonio Prat defeated
Jonathan Baron and
Tanner Povey 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Saud Alhogbani and Nacho Serra Sanchez clinched with a 6-4 win over
Mika Bunjes and
Gustav Hasslegren at No. 3 doubles. The match on court two remained unfinished with
Stefan Correa and
Pablo Paternostro tied 6-6 against Jules Garot and Rafael Segado.
In singles, Miami extended its lead as Rafael Segado earned a straight-set victory over
Stavros Hadjivarnava, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 4 singles. No. 100 Antonio Prat added another point for the Canes with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Povey at No. 1 singles. Kroslak then completed the sweep for UM by defeating Paternostro 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
The remaining matches on courts two, five, and six were left unfinished, with Baron trailing Serra Sanchez 1-6, 4-5 at No. 2 singles, Bunjes behind Alhogbani 2-6, 3-2 at No. 5 singles, and Correa against Garot at No. 6 singles, 3-6, 3-3.
FGCU returns to the courts next week with a match at Elon on Feb. 27 followed by a Feb. 28 battle at UNC Greensboro. The road trip will wrap up on Mar. 1 at Queens for the Atlantic Sun Conference opener.
