FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast men's basketball (12-15, 6-8 ASUN) remains at home at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18 against Jacksonville (10-17, 5-9).
The Eagles are on a two-game win streak and have won four straight games at Alico Arena after knocking off Stetson 78-76 on Saturday.
In the win over the Hatters,
Isaiah Malone recorded three blocks to move into a tie with Kyle Marks for the second most blocks in a season in FGCU history with 51. He needs one more block to take sole possession of second on that list.
Jordan Ellerbee led FGCU with 18 points. The freshman posted his ninth consecutive double-digit game in the win.
Michael Duax scored 15 with three steals, and JR Konieczny had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles.
In the final moments of the FGCU-Stetson game,
Rahmir Barno got to the rim with 20 seconds to play and calmly delivered the go-ahead bucket moments after Stetson's Collin Kuhl put the Hatters up 76-75. Stetson brought the ball up the court and took a timeout with 10 seconds remaining. Barno played the hero again. He deflected the inbound pass to himself and flipped the ball to
Isaiah Malone near midcourt as he was sailing toward the scorer's table to secure the win.
In FGCU and Jacksonville's previous meeting in 2026, the Eagles' defense put on a suffocating performance. The Dolphins went just 1-for-17 (5.9%) from behind the arc, joining Loyola Marymount, who did the same on December 1, 2012, as the two opponents held under 6% from deep by Florida Gulf Coast men's basketball. The total 49 points scored by the Dolphins is the second time a conference opponent has been held under 50 in the Chambers era at FGCU, as the Eagles held Queens to 47 points on January 18, 2025.
Meanwhile, FGCU knocked down triples at a 46.7% clip, led by a 3-for-4 afternoon from
Jordan Ellerbee, who led all scorers with 15 points. Ellerbee and
Tristen Guillouette, who scored a season-high 11 points, led the Eagles to their eighth straight win and a 24-12 series lead over the Dolphins.
After the loss to FGCU, JU lost three straight to Queens (93-84), West Georgia (87-73) and Stetson (67-62) before getting a Valentine's Day win over North Florida, 63-56.
The Dolphins are led by Hayden Wood, JU's lone double-digit scorer at 10.1 points per game. Wood shoots 43.6% from the field and 39.2% from 3-point range. Donovan Rivers and Jason Thirdkill Jr. each grab 4.7 rebounds per game. Even Sterck dishes out 3.2 assists per game, and, along with Jaylen Jones, records 1.3 steals per game. As a team, JU tallies 3.0 blocks per game.
Jacksonville leads the ASUN in bench points per game with 30.56, but FGCU outscored the Dolphins 32-17 in bench points in the initial meeting.
FGCU leads the all-time series 24-12 against JU. The Eagles have won eight straight games and 16 of the last 17; head coach
Pat Chambers is 6-0 against the Dolphins.
Wednesday is FC Naples Night at Alico Arena. Fans can get FC Naples swap during t-shirt time at the game.
