FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast women's basketball will begin its season at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, when the Eagles head to Bloomington to face Indiana at historic Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
The Eagles enter the 2026-27 season tied atop the ASUN Preseason Coaches poll with Jacksonville.
Sinai Douglas,
Eve Alexander and
Denika Lightbourne were tabbed to the Preseason All-ASUN team, as FGCU led all schools with three selections. Douglas earned the nod coming off a Third Team All-ASUN season, while Lightbourne is the lone first-year transfer on the preseason all-conference team.
Douglas and Alexander lead the group of returners that includes fifth year
Cerina Rolle, senior
Karina Gordon, junior
Jalei Pillow, junior
Airah Lavy and senior
Shameir Quimby. The seven returners comprised the majority of the Eagles' statistical production in nearly every stat category.
Douglas averaged 11.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game en route to a Third Team All-ASUN selection and a pair of ASUN Newcomer of the Week honors last season. The Toledo, Ohio, native scored in double digits 19 times with two 20-point games, and tallied a team-high 31.9 minutes per game while starting all 32 games for FGCU. Her minutes per game mark represented theÂ
Alexander earned a Preseason All-ASUN selection after she posted 7.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game on 61.7% shooting from the field during her sophomore campaign. She returns as the Eagles' leader in blocked shots, and led the squad in the ASUN Tournament with 20 points against Bellarmine and 18 against Stetson.
Lightbourne (FIU) joined via the transfer portal, along with
Lily Zeinstra (Butler),
Amelia Hobson (North Dakota State) and Graça Barbosa (Gulf Coast State), and freshmen
Ari Turla and
Elle McCulloch.
Lightbourne was the lone first-year transfer selection to the Preseason All-ASUN team, and for good reason. The senior guard and Bahamas native was an integral piece at FIU in 2025-26 after spending two years at Dayton. As a Panther, she averaged 9.5 points per game on 50.3% shooting from the field, the best mark on the 21-win FIU squad. She added 3.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, while putting up a pair of 20-point games and ten games in double digits.
Meanwhile,
Turla won a silver medal at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup this summer with Team Canada. The Scarborough, Ontario, native played with several of her high school and club teammates, like Stanford freshman Jordyn Wheeler and Rice freshman KK Sta. Maria, along with other power conference newcomers such as Savvy Swords (Kentucky), Chante Murray (West Virginia), Isabella Sangha (Notre Dame), Emilia Krstevski (Oregon) and Eunicia Salgado (Boston College).
McCulloch will return to her home state for her first career Division I game. The Brownsburg, Ind., native could make her college debut an hour south of her hometown at historic Assembly Hall.Â
In addition to McCulloch, a number of Eagles have midwest ties as FGCU returns to Bloomington two years after falling narrowly to Oklahoma in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Head coach
Raina Harmon is a Detroit native, and spent time in the Big 10 as an assistant at Iowa and the DOBO at Michigan. Assistant coach
Amber Moore played at Illinois and assistant coach
Tyler Johnson previously worked at IU Indy and Ohio.
Lily Zeinstra is a Michigan native and played two years in Indianapolis at Butler,
Sinai Douglas is from Toledo and
Airah Lavy is from Nelsonville, Ohio.
The Hoosiers finished 18-14 in 2025-26. Indiana lost its leading scorer in Shay Ciezski's 22.8 points per game, but return their next three top producers in Lenée Beaumont (13.3 points per game, shooting 43.1% from the field, 37.6% from 3-point range and 86.3% from the free throw line in 34.5 minutes per game), Zania Socka-nguemen (11.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game) and Maya Makalusky (9.7 points per game, shooting 44.7% from the field, 37.6% from 3-point range and 80% from the free throw line).Â
IU defeated FGCU in the first half of the home-and-home 82-64 on Nov. 25, 2025. Beaumont scored 23 points on 5-for-5 shooting from behind the arc, while Douglas led FGCU with 12 points and seven rebounds. The all-time series is split 1-1 between the two squads; the Eagles won 73-69 at home on Dec. 21, 2010.
Against Big 10 opponents, FGCU is 5-9 all-time. The Eagles have yet to win a true road game over a Big 10 foe in the regular season, in part due to the fact that Tuesday's trip to Bloomington will be the third time, and the first time in nearly a decade, that FGCU will travel to a Big 10 opponent in the regular season. The Eagles played at Illinois on Dec. 17, 2016, and faced Michigan State in East Lansing on Dec. 13, 2009. FGCU's last Big 10 win came at a neutral site over the Spartans, 85-84, in double overtime on Dec. 20, 2021.
Beyond the Big 10 regular season road trip, a regular season road trip to any power conference team has been a rarity for FGCU. The season opener will mark just the 14th regular season road trip to a power conference team, and the first since 2023. The last Eagles' win over a power conference team on the road was a 69-63 win at Kentucky on Dec. 18, 2022. With a trip to South Carolina two weeks following the battle with IU, 2026-27 will be the third season in program history with multiple road games at power conference opponents.
The Eagles have an all-time record of 25-40 against power conference opponents. FGCU took down Stanford, 66-62, on Nov. 28, 2025, in head coach
Raina Harmon's first season.
