Eagles set for TYR Fall Classic at FIU

DORAL, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University swimming and diving team will travel across the state this weekend to compete in the TYR Fall Classic, hosted by FIU at the Doral Aquatic Center. The two-day meet begins Friday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m. and continues Saturday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m.
 
The Eagles will face a seven-team field that includes East Carolina, FAU, FIU, Keiser, St. Thomas (Fla.) and Tulane.
 
Friday's session opens with the 400 medley relay, followed by the 200 freestyle, 400 IM, 100 fly, 50 freestyle, 100 breast, 100 back and 200 free relay. On the boards, divers will compete in the 1-meter.
 
Saturday's session starts with the 200 medley relay, followed by the 500 freestyle, 200 breast, 200 back, 100 freestyle, 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 free relay. Divers will compete in 3-meter.
 
The meet uses a team-focused scoring format. Each individual event is swum in three heats (A, B and C), with each team entering one athlete per heat. The A heat awards 32 points to the winner, followed by 28, 27, 26, 25, 24, 23 and 22. The B heat awards 20-17-16-15-14-13-12-11, and the C heat awards 9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. Relays are swum in two heats. The A relay awards 64-56-54-52-50-48-46-44 and the B relay awards 40-34-32-30-28-26-24-22.
 
Following the TYR Fall Classic, the Eagles will host Keiser in a dual meet on Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. from the FGCU Aquatics Complex.
