Eagles Control Day One of Dual Meet With North Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU Eagles opened senior weekend and its two-day dual meet against the North Florida Ospreys in strong fashion Friday at the FGCU Aquatics Complex, building a commanding 103-45 advantage after the opening session of competition.

How It Happened
  • FGCU opened the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay, as the group of Cassie Bauer, Easton Glandt, Nori Hetyei and Leah Gentry-Tuney touched first in 3:43.38. The Eagles also placed third with their group of Nadia Helm, Ella Smith, Libby Russum and Mia Burke in 3:49.85.
  • In the 50 fly, Izzy Ackley claimed the victory in 24.35, while Nastia Tichy added a third-place finish in 25.56.
  • FGCU placed two swimmers on the podium in the 50 breast, as Glandt finished second in 29.20 and Gentry-Tuney followed in third with a time of 29.33.
  • The Eagles went one-two in the 1650 free, with Lily Magda winning the event in 17:08.34 and Jasmin Kroll finishing second in 17:10.90.
  • Ackley earned her second individual win of the day by taking first in the 50 back with a time of 24.77. Bauer placed second in 26.17 and Olivia Vecchio finished third in 26.19, giving FGCU a sweep of the top three spots.
  • In the 50 free, Burke captured the win with a time of 23.43, while Sydney Ringwald added a third-place finish in 24.07.
  • FGCU controlled the 400 IM, led by Aislyn Barnett's victory in 4:18.31. Ipek Aydiner placed second with a time of 4:24.53 to give the Eagles the top two spots in the event.
  • The Eagles closed the session with another win in the 400 free relay, as the group of Kroll, Helm, Russum and Gentry-Tuney finished first in 3:21.09. FGCU also placed second with its group of Bauer, Burke, Audrey Sambrook and Ringwald in 3:27.14.

What's Next
The Eagles are back in the pool on Saturday, Jan. 31, for the conclusion of the dual meet against North Florida. Prior to the noon start, the Eagles will hold Senior Day festivities to honor Mia Burke, Jordan Durocher, Nadia Helm, Lily Magda and Libby Russum. Festivities are set to begin at 11:30 a.m.
