JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast sophomore
Anjali Kotecha was named the Atlantic Sun Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday after a nearly flawless week of action.
The Eagle duo of Kotecha and
Nora Svensson currently rank No. 82 in the nation and went undefeated in three matches last week, led off with a 7-5 win in Coral Gables over Miami's Daria Volosova and Maria Vargas. Kotecha and Svensson not only handed that UM duo their first loss in dual match action this year but also extended their own season doubles record to 10-0.
Kotecha, the ASUN's 2025 Freshman of the Year, put together a 5-1 overall record across doubles and singles last week. In addition to doubles wins over pairs from Florida A&M (6-1) and Middle Tennessee (6-2).
She was nearly as impressive in singles action with wins straight-set wins over Florida A&M's Reagan Harris (6-0, 6-1) and Middle Tennessee's Zora Koenig (7-6 [7-5], 6-0), after dropping a challenging three-set match at Miami against Dominika Podhajecka (0-6, 6-3, 6-2). Kotecha has accumulated a singles record of 5-4 this season, going 4-1 in dual match action.
FGCU (4-1) has a week off before returning to action at USF on Friday, Feb. 6. Start time in Tampa is set for 1 p.m.
