Eagles Return Home to Face Austin Peay on Thursday Night

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Eagles (9-8, 5-1 ASUN) host Austin Peay (11-5, 3-3) on Thursday night at Alico Arena for a 7 p.m. tip, meeting the Governors for the second time in two weeks after a tightly contested road win earlier in the month.

The Eagles and Governors battle for the eighth time, with FGCU holding a perfect 7-0 advantage in the all-time series. Two weeks ago in Clarksville, the Eagles survived a late push to secure a 58-54 road victory, powered by a career performance from Sinai Douglas, who went a perfect 6-for-6 from beyond the arc and scored a career-high 24 points.

FGCU's defense has set the tone early in conference play, consistently disrupting opponents and controlling the tempo. Entering Thursday's matchup, the Eagles are holding ASUN opponents to a league-low 49.8 points per game while allowing the lowest field goal percentage at 33.5 percent and the second-lowest three-point shooting mark at 21.7 percent. FGCU has also limited second-chance opportunities by controlling the glass, allowing just 32.7 rebounds per game, while its activity and pressure have forced tough shots and late-clock possessions throughout conference action.

FGCU comes into the matchup riding a 65-45 road win over Queens on Saturday, Jan. 17, in Charlotte, North Carolina, improving to 5-1 in ASUN play. The Eagles took control in the third quarter, outscoring Queens 27-9 to break the game open. Nay Staton led the way with 15 points, while Jordan Campbell added 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds off the bench. FGCU's defense set the tone throughout, holding Queens to 34.5 percent shooting from the field and forcing 17 turnovers.

Austin Peay enters the matchup at 3-3 in the ASUN following a 51-45 home loss to Lipscomb on Saturday, Jan. 17. The Governors struggled to find early rhythm offensively but stayed within reach late by forcing turnovers and getting to the free-throw line. Anovia Sheals paced Austin Peay with 10 points, while JaNiah Newell scored 12 off the bench in the loss.

On the season, the Governors average just under 67 points per game and rely heavily on guard play to generate offense. Sheals is a primary scoring option, while Ines Gnahore adds a perimeter threat. Newell and Kyra Perkins provide additional playmaking and scoring, and Austin Peay will look to create second-chance opportunities and push tempo to challenge FGCU's defense.

For the Eagles, the focus remains on continuing to improve game by game, limiting second-chance opportunities, valuing possessions, and converting around the rim. Defensively, FGCU will aim to dictate pace and set the tone early to protect its home court.

FGCU remains at Alico Arena following Thursday's contest, hosting Lipscomb on Saturday, Jan. 24, at noon as conference play continues.
