FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University's women's cross-country team swept the first Atlantic Sun Conference weekly awards Wednesday.
Ozia Trujillo won Runner of the Week and
Tess Shultz was named Freshman of the Week.
"Ozia did an outstanding job staying with the front pack throughout the race, which led to her PR and school record. We are very excited to see her progress throughout the season," said FGCU head coach
Argeo Cruz. "Tess is very competitive and not afraid to push the pace with teammates. We are very excited to have Tess on the team and see her make an immediate impact."
This is FGCU's ninth POW. Trujillo set a program record in the 5K with a time of 17:07.7 seconds to help the Eagles finish fourth as a team on Friday at the Florida Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by North Florida.
Shultz's Freshman of the Week was the Eagles' sixth. The newcomer finished 14th and stopped the clock at 18:14.5 ahead of runners from USF and UCF.
FGCU's next scheduled meet is the Southern Showcase on Sep. 12, hosted by Jacksonville State.
