Ozia Trujillo won the Atlantic Sun Conference Runner of the Week award Wednesday. This is her second award for the season and the 10th for Florida Gulf Coast University's women's cross country team.
"Ozia's performance at Huntsville shows her ability to compete among the country's top runners," said FGCU head coach
Argeo Cruz. "She is very driven to continue improving and to lead our Eagle team."
Trujillo set a program record in the 5K with a time of 17:05.4 seconds at the Southern Showcase hosted by Jacksonville State in Huntsville, Alabama.
The Kansas native broke her previous record of 17:07.7, which she set two weeks ago at the Florida Intercollegiate Invitational in Jacksonville. The newcomer crossed the line ahead of runners from Florida State, Auburn. Kentucky, Alabama and UCF, to name a few. She finished 13
th out of 480 runners.
FGCU's next scheduled meet is the Louisville Cross Country Classic on October 4, hosted by Louisville.
