Eagles look to maintain momentum at West Georgia

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University aims to build on its recent momentum as it travels to Carrollton, Georgia, for a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference Graphite Division baseball series against the University of West Georgia this weekend.

The Eagles (21-26, 11-13 ASUN) have won five of their last six conference games and are coming off a crucial sweep of North Florida that vaulted them into third place in the division. First pitch Friday is set for 6 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. game Saturday and a 1 p.m. finale Sunday. All games will be streamed live via West Georgia's SIDEARM Sports platform.

FGCU showcased its depth and resilience in last weekend's sweep. In Friday's 7-3 win, Evan Dempsey delivered six strong innings, while Harrison Povey launched his 13th home run of the season. On Saturday, Chris Diaz went the distance on the mound, and Jaret Nelson powered the offense with two two-run homers in a 5-4 victory. Sunday's 4-3 win was sealed by Tyler Herb's clutch RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.

West Georgia (18-27, 9-15 ASUN) trails FGCU by two games in the standings. The Wolves salvaged a win last Sunday with a 10-1 victory over division-leading Stetson in DeLand.

The Wolves swept FGCU earlier this season at Swanson Stadium (March 21–23), dropping the Eagles to 1-5 in divisional play at the time. Since then, FGCU has gone 10-8 in conference action to reassert itself in the ASUN Championship race.

Both teams are coming off midweek nonconference losses. FGCU fell 2-0 at Florida Atlantic on Tuesday, while West Georgia suffered a 17-1 defeat at home to former ASUN member Kennesaw State.

Following this weekend's series, the Eagles return home to close out the regular season against Stetson, May 15–17. The series was moved up to accommodate the ASUN Championship, which begins May 20. Tickets are available at FGCUTickets.com or by calling 866-FGCU-TIX (342-8849).
