Eagles head back to Pompano Beach for FIU Invite

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University beach volleyball heads back to Pompano Beach, Florida, to compete in the FIU Invite this Friday and Saturday.

The Eagles visited Pompano Beach earlier this season for an event hosted by Florida Atlantic. FGCU went 1-3 and faced two Top 25 teams, falling 3-2 to both No. 4 USC and No. 20 Georgia State. This time around, FGCU will face Palm Beach State, Tulane and FIU.

The Green and Blue will play two matches on Friday and Saturday. FGCU opens with Palm Beach State at 8 a.m. and then faces Tulane at noon. 24 hours later on Saturday, FGCU will rematch with Tulane at noon once again and will finish with a match against event host FIU at 2:30 p.m. FGCU took down a ranked FIU squad, 4-1, on March 7. The Panthers were ranked No. 14 at the time and are currently ranked No. 20 overall.

FGCU, who received seven votes in the latest Top 20 Poll, is 11-9 on the season and 5-2 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Tulane received 22 votes to effectively place 21st overall. The Eagles are currently on a six-match win streak, going 4-0 last weekend at the ASUN Mid-Season Crossover event in Jacksonville, Florida, – sweeping both Austin Peay and Central Arkansas. The Eagles have lost only three counting points in its last six matches.

Kaitlyn Luebbers broke the FGCU Beach Volleyball all-time career wins record in Jacksonville with her 85th career victory. The ASUN's Preseason Player of the Year is 11-8 on the season with three ranked victories at the Eagles' No. 1 spot on the sand.

Chis Sweat is three wins away from win No. 100 as head coach of FGCU.
