Olivia Black continued her milestone weekend with her 100th career hit and
Allison Sparkman pitched five no-hit innings in the 8-3 win for Florida Gulf Coast University softball against West Georgia on Sunday in Carrollton, Ga.
The Eagles (26-26, 13-8 ASUN) entered the game looking for their second sweep of the Wolves (12-36, 4-17 ASUN) with Sparkman in the circle.
Sparkman was coming off a Saturday outing where she struck out 11, seven swinging, en route to the complete game win. The Canton, Ga. native came out dealing, not allowing a hit in her five innings pitched forcing 11 ground outs.
Victoria Ash came on in relief to start the sixth. Ash struck out four in two innings of work, both looking in the sixth, both swinging in the seventh.
FGCU got the offense going in the second with four runs. It started with two sacrifice flies by
Tiffany Meek and
Maria Angelino before Black drove in two more. Angelino would drive home two more in the third to bring the score to 6-0.
Maddox Thomas came home from first on a wild pitch and a throwing error to third to take a 7-0 lead.
The Wolves would get two unearned runs in the fifth, still having not recorded a hit.
Avery Viancos recorded the third sacrifice fly of the game for FGCU to bring home the team's eighth run. West Georgia would register one more to bring the final tally to 8-3 in favor of the Eagles.
The Green and Blue now sit at second in the graphite division with three games remaining. Only Stetson (27-26, 11-10 ASUN) can unseat FGCU from second place in the division. The Eagles are two games ahead of the Hatters but the Hatters own the tiebreaker. FGCU concludes ASUN play by hosting conference-leading North Florida (40-12, 20-1 ASUN) while Stetson will host West Georgia.
