FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University beach volleyball heads to Jacksonville this Friday for the ASUN Mid-Season Tournament March 28-29.
FGCU will face four separate Atlantic Sun Conference teams in Jacksonville. The Eagles will square off against EKU (10 a.m.) and Central Arkansas (2 p.m.) on Friday and then North Alabama (10 a.m.) and Austin Peay (Noon) one day later during Saturday's action. EKU (7-5) and North Alabama (9-7) both have winning records this season.
The Green and Blue improved to 7-9 last Wednesday on Senior Day with a 4-1 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic and a 5-0 sweep of Florida Southern. Against the ASUN, the Eagles are 1-2 against conference foes.
Two ASUN schools are currently perched in the latest Top 20 of the AVCA Collegiate Beach Poll. Event host North Florida is No. 16 overall and Stetson has moved up to No. 14. FGCU earned six votes to tie for 22nd. The Eagles defeated current No. 20 FIU this season at home, 4-1 during its inaugural tournament at the R.O.C. The Panthers were ranked No. 14 at the time.
Kaitlyn Luebbers, the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year, is three wins away from breaking the FGCU beach volleyball all-time career wins mark. Luebbers is currently at 82 wins and closing in on Kacie Johnson atop the list with 84. Lubbers is 8-8 this season at the No. 1 position with three ranked wins.
