FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University beach volleyball hosts Palm Beach Atlantic and Florida Southern for its Senior Day festivities on Wednesday at the R.O.C before heading to Jacksonville, Florida, next Friday (March 28) for the ASUN Mid-Season Tournament.
FGCU will honor the playing careers of Manaia Rewi, Jaci Carpenter, Kaitlyn Luebbers, Mia Thompson and Lily Hafner with a pre-game ceremony to kick off the first match of the day against Florida Southern.
The Eagles will square off against Florida Southern at 10 a.m. and then take on Palm Beach Atlantic at 2 p.m. Florida Southern and Palm Beach Atlantic will play against each other during the scheduled 10 a.m. match.
Last weekend, FGCU nearly upset No. 4 USC and No. 20 Georgia State, dropping both matches 3-2. The Eagles' No. 5 (Majick/Miller) and No. 4 (Dietz/Thompson) pairs secured wins over the Trojans. Against the Panthers, FGCU's No. 3 (Carpenter/Thompson) and No. 2 (Keeter/Lilliquist) squad reigned supreme.
FGCU has notched one ranked win this season on its home sand, defeating No. 14 FIU 4-1, and FGCU earned nine votes in the latest AVCA Collegiate Beach Top 25 Poll.
Luebbers added one win at Pompano Beach to bring her career wins tally up to 80. She is two wins away from tying and three wins away from breaking the FGCU Beach Volleyball all-time career wins record. Luebbers, who was named the Preseason Player of the Year, is 6-8 this season at the No. 1 spot on the courts. Three of her six wins this year have come against ranked opponents.
