Box Score The Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team dropped a 7-3 conference loss at Stetson University this afternoon in DeLand, Florida.
Trailing 2-0 going into the top of the third, FGCU tallied back-to-back singles by
Aidan Corn and
Nathan Gagnon to start things off. Both runners later scored off
Evan Dempsey's two-run double down the left field line with one out to tie the game at two before the inning concluded.
Stetson (11-10, 2-1 ASUN) responded in its half of the inning as it reclaimed the lead on a pair of hits to go up, 3-2.
The Eagles (8-11, 1-2 ASUN) for the second time today tied the game but this time coming off the bat of
Mac Moise when he homered to left field to make it a 3-3 game.
The Hatters broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth when it plated four runs to take a 7-3 lead.
Stetson's pitching held the Eagles to three base runners over the last four innings.
Dempsey paced FGCU hitters going 2-for-4 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs. Teammates Moise, Gagnon, Corn, and
Harrison Povey combined for four hits, an RBI, a home run, and three runs scored.
Left-hander
Chase Kriebel took the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season. In his fifth start, he scattered five hits over four innings of work while allowing three runs.
FGCU is back on the road on Tuesday when it travels to Tampa to face the University of South Florida at 6 p.m.
