Beach volleyball in search of ranked wins at FAU Beach Invitational

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University beach volleyball heads to Pompano Beach for more marquee wins Friday and Saturday at the Florida Atlantic Beach Invitational.

FGCU (4-6) upset No. 14 FIU last weekend, 4-1, while hosting the FGCU Inaugural Tournament at the R.O.C. The Eagles also took No. 20 Stetson to the wire, 4-3, on day two, searching for their second ranked win of the season. FGCU has squared off against four Top 20 teams this season, dropping two of the four matches by just a single point. The Eagles received nine votes in the latest AVCA Collegiate Beach Top 20 Poll.

The Green and Blue's second ranked win could come this weekend as FGCU faces No. 20 Georgia State and No. 4 USC. FGCU upset the Panthers a season ago, 3-2. Georgia State was ranked No. 15 at the time.

On Friday in Pompano Beach, FGCU will play UAB (1 p.m.) and Tampa (3 p.m.). FGCU then takes on two ranked opponents Saturday, No. 4 USC at 10:30 a.m. and No. 20 Georgia State at 2:15 p.m.

Paired with Nicole De Oliveira as the Eagles' flagship No. 1 pair, Kaitlyn Luebbers notched three ranked victories last weekend. Luebbers' three wins bring her tally to 79, now four wins from setting the FGCU Volleyball all-time career wins record.
