Eagles defeat Rams

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University men's tennis defeated VCU 5-2 on Tuesday at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

The Eagles capitalized early, winning the doubles point. Harry Michalowski and Stavros Hadjivarnava came out to an early 4-1 lead on court three. Michalowski/Hadjivarnava would eventually secure the court win 6-3 to take the first doubles court.

Courts one and two were tightly contested with no team getting too far ahead of the other. Hugo Magnusson and Johnathan Baron would clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 win on court one.

Singles action began with wins from Ninad Raut at court five, one and four, and Magnusson taking court one, 7-5, 6-2, before VCU would win on court six.

With the score at 3-1, the remaining three court all looked like they could be the one to clinch the match. Pablo Paternostro would eventually clinch the match in a second set tiebreaker, 7-1, winning the first six points.

Baron would earn the fifth point for the Eagles after battling back from a 6-4 loss on court two to win his match 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

The Green and Blue return to action at 10 a.m. on Thursday, at home against UT Arlington.
