Florida Gulf Coast University softball dropped the final two games of the SpaceU Classic in Orlando, Florida, against Quinnipiac, 1-0, and UCF, 4-2, on Sunday.
The first game against the Bobcats (2-6) was a low-scoring, quick game that ended in 90 minutes.
Allison Sparkman was in the circle for the Eagles and pitched brilliantly.
The sophomore sensation did not walk a single batter in 6.2 innings of work before allowing in an unearned run in the seventh for the walk off.
The Eagles (6-12) got runners to second in the fifth and sixth innings but were not able to bring them home in the one-run loss.
FGCU bounced back immediately to play the hosts, UCF (11-6-1).
Victoria Ash got the start and eclipsed 10 straight innings without allowing an earned run, the first FGCU pitcher to do that this season.
The scoring started when
Leslie Flaherty singled to center to bring in
Alexis Cowles. Cowles drove in the next run on a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead.
The Knights scored three in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead that would hold for the rest of the game.
The Green and Blue continue its road stretch with a midweek against Florida before going to Tallahassee, Florida, for the Dugout Club Classic.
