Olivia Black recorded her 50th career steal, moving to fifth in the DI era, and Florida Gulf Coast University softball records their second most stolen bases in a game and seventh most walks in a game in the DI era against Columbia in a 11-3 run-rule victory.
The Eagles also dropped the first game of the day against Pitt, 5-2, in a game where starting pitcher
Victoria Ash went the complete game without allowing an earned run.
The matchup between the Panthers and Eagles matchup was played at a blistering pace, finishing in 91 minutes. It is the shortest seven inning game for the Eagles in the past two seasons, only being surpassed by a 78-minute run-rule win versus Rhode Island last season.
Against Pitt, a string of errors allowed five unearned runs to cross the plate in the first three innings. The Eagles countered with two in the bottom half of the third, including the first collegiate home run from
Sophie Wylie but would not score the rest of the way leading to the 5-2 loss.
The Eagles bounced back immediately with a matchup against Columbia, scoring in every inning of the game. FGCU jumped out early with five runs in the first two innings. The Lions and Eagles would each put up three runs across the third and fourth innings before the Green and Blue put the game away with three in the fifth, securing the run-rule victory.
Avery Viancos continues to excel against the Lions. Today she went 3-for-4 with two RBI, three runs and two stolen bases. Last year, Viancos went 4-for-4 with two RBI, three runs and three stolen bases against the Lions.
The Green and Blue conclude the SpaceU Classic on Sunday with games against Quinnipiac and UCF at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
