FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast men's basketball makes its lone out-of-state road trip in the month of December when it heads to Albuquerque to face one of the Mountain West's premier programs in New Mexico at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, Dec. 14.
It's just the second time in program history that the Eagles will play in the Mountain Time Zone, and the first in 18 years, since its inaugural Division I season, when FGCU lost to Arizona State in Tempe on Nov. 28, 2007.
FGCU's trip to Albuquerque is their longest of the 2025-26 season (1,600.7 miles), and is their second longest of the Chambers era, only behind a trip to LA & San Diego to face USC and San Diego (not current New Mexico head coach Eric Olen's previous stop at UC San Diego) in Nov. 2022-23.
The Eagles are looking to snap a three game losing skid after falling by a combined 13 points to Kennesaw State, FIU and FAU. FGCU put its opponents at the free throw line at a historic rate in the losses, and the Owls and Panthers took advantage, recording a plus-26 mark at the charity stripe over the three games.
JR Konieczny,
Jordan Ellerbee and
Rahmir Barno have emerged as the Eagles' primary offensive threats, all three are averaging over 15 points per game as part of FGCU's ASUN-best 85.8 points per game.
Sunday's game will be the first ever between FGCU and New Mexico. The Eagles have only faced one Mountain West opponent in program history – San Diego State in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament. The Dunk City Eagles won 81-71 in Philadelphia en route to the Sweet 16.
Jake Hall averages 14.4 points per game for the Lobos. Tomislav Buljan grabs an impressive 10.1 rebounds per game; Chris Howell facilitates the offense to the tune of 3.6 assists per game. On the defensive end, Uriah Tennette averages 1.8 steals per game and Antonio Chol and JT Rock each record 0.8 blocks per game.
The Lobos' only setbacks have come at New Mexico State and against Nebraska. UNM has wins over Mississippi St, VCU, Santa Clara and UT Arlington, among others.
