FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast men's basketball senior JR Konieczny was named the ASUN Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Monday. 

The Notre Dame transfer has become a primary option early on for FGCU. Konieczny scored a team high 24 in both games on the week, including a double-double against Georgia Southern with 13 rebounds. He finished the week with 48 points on 18 made field goals and five made 3-pointers, 20 rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Konieczny became the first Eagle to ever have three consecutive 20+ point outings against the first three Division 1 opponents of the season, and is averaging 19.8 points per game on the young season.

Next, FGCU will play the back half of the ASUN-SoCon Challenge at 8 p.m. ET against Samford in Birmingham on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
