Eagles clash at Alico Arena on Tuesday night

FGCU, Georgia Southern to meet on Veteran's Day

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast men's basketball returns home to face Georgia Southern on Tuesday night at Alico Arena at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

The Eagles & Eagles have faced off six times since 2016. FGCU holds a 4-2 lead, but is 1-2 in Fort Myers as the series returns to Florida for the first time since 2020. It renews after a one-year hiatus in 2024-25; FGCU won the most recent contest 53-42 on Dec. 19, 2023 in Savannah. The Veterans Day slate marks the first time ever the two programs have met outside the month of December.

Each squad enters at 1-1. FGCU has been on both sides of a rout, while Georgia Southern won and lost both of its first two games by three points.

Against Illinois, FGCU was led by JR Koniecnzy, who scored a career-high 26 points on 8-for-16 shooting from the field and 3-for-7 shooting from 3-point range to go with five rebounds and two steals. Freshman guard Jordan Ellerbee had his first career double-digit game, scoring 12 with four offensive rebounds for the Eagles.

FGCU is 95-80 all-time against teams that once called the ASUN home. Of the 15 schools that left the ASUN and still exist/remain as a D1 institution, FGCU holds a 20-16 advantage over the seven it has played, including Georgia Southern (4-2), FAU (4-4) and FIU (8-9) (the three most frequent opponents that hold that distinction).

Georgia Southern enters off a close home win over UNC Asheville. The Eagles used a high volume of free throws to get past the Bulldogs, shooting 28-for-39 from the charity stripe, while posting a solid mark from beyond the arc (7-22, 31.8%) and from the field (29-65, 44.6%). Both their FG% and 3PT% were better against ECU, but they went 18-30 from the foul line.

Georgia Southern plays nine players above 14 MPG, led by Spudd Webb with 27.5. Webb scores 20.5 per game, and Moore (14.5), Applewhite (15.5) and White (12) also average double-digits for the high powered offense.

With Veterans Day comes Hometown Heroes Night: military & 1st responder recognitions throughout the game. All fans 21+ can also enjoy $3 beer night.
