Eagles with Strong Showing at Bonita Bay Open

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's tennis was back in action Nov. 7-9, as they took part in the Bonita Bay Collegiate Open, hosted at the Bonita Bay Club. The Eagles competed against Drake, Florida Atlantic, and South Florida over the three days. The Eagles delivered strong performances in both singles and doubles play against all three teams.

How It Happened
vs DRAKE
The Eagles started strong in singles, with Hugo Magnusson and Mika Bunjes earning straight-set wins, while Pablo Paternostro battled to a three-set victory. Harry Michalowski and Stefan Correa added convincing wins, and Jonathan Baron, Gustav Hasslegren, and CJ Smith each picked up solid results to round out a dominant showing.

In doubles, FGCU was nearly flawless. Michalowski and Paternostro led the way with an 8-3 win, while Correa and Baron, Hasslegren and Magnusson, and the team of Tanner Povey and Bunjes all earned 8-6 victories. The Eagles swept all eight doubles matches against the Bulldogs.

vs FLORIDA ATLANTIC
Magnusson continued his momentum with a 6-3, 7-6(3) win, and Povey rallied for a three-set victory. In doubles play, Hasslegren and Magnusson claimed an 8-5 decision, and Bunjes and Smith secured a tight 8-7(5) victory to close out another strong team effort.

vs SOUTH FLORIDA
Against a tough USF squad, Correa delivered the highlight with a gritty 4-6, 7-5, [10-5] comeback win.

Head Coach Josh Molino - "The weekend was incredible and we are extremely thankful and appreciative to the Bonita Bay Club membership, Paula, CJ and their entire staff for putting on a first class event. The Eagles played very well against a competitive field and had great production up and down the lineup. We continue to improve and grow as a group, and we look forward to competing at Pelican Bay next weekend."

What's Next
The Eagles will host the Pelican Bay Collegiate Invitational from the Pelican Bay Community Center in Naples, Fla. on Nov. 14-15. FGCU will go up against Barry and Boston College.
