FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast men's soccer is gearing up for a key ASUN rematch this weekend as the Eagles travel to DeLand, Fla. to face Stetson.
FGCU enters the matchup coming off a 1–0 home win over North Florida that marked the team's third shutout of the season.
Leading the charge for the Eagles is
Salvador Martinez, who was recently named ASUN Player of the Week following a string of standout performances. The honor proved well deserved, as Martinez showcased his clutch ability once again by scoring the game winning goal with 2:22 remaining in FGCU's victory over the Ospreys.
The Eagles (5-6-3, 1-2-1 ASUN) will look to build off the momentum from the win as they aim to avenge their 3–1 loss to the Hatters nearly a month ago. In that meeting, Stetson capitalized early with two first-half goals.
Offensively, FGCU continues to rely on its dynamic front line of
Caio Oliveira, Martinez, and
Pedro Arcoverde. Oliveira and Martinez share the team lead with five goals apiece, while Arcoverde has added three. Between the posts,
Oliver Weng has anchored the defense with 10 starts, posting 50 saves, a 1.39 goals-against average and three clean sheets.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Stetson Athletic Training Center.
