CONWAY, Ark. – Florida Gulf Coast men's soccer was unable to snap Central Arkansas' unbeaten record at home, falling 6-0 on Saturday night.
UCA (6-4-2, 3-1-1) went up 2-0 early via a pair of own goals in the 5th and 21st minutes. The Bears improved to 5-0-1 on their home field with the victory. FGCU (5-6-3, 1-3-2) was unable to bounce back, as four different Bears found the back of the net to reach the eventual 6-0 final score.Â
Kyle Schwartz gave the Bears a 3-0 lead in the 30th minute; the score would hold until halftime. The Eagles found only one first half shot on goal from
Brooks Beeman, which was saved by Merrick Cook. FGCU would get only one other chance on goal on the evening from
Brian Lopez in the second half.
The Bears poured it on, though. Kaisei Matsudo found UCA's fourth goal after a free kick from just outside the box ricocheted off the crossbar directly to his foot. The final two tallies came in quick succession, as Noa Bamballi scored in the 76th minute and Michael Walenchok capped the offense with a goal of his own in the 77th.
Next, FGCU returns to Fort Myers for the home finale against Stetson at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24.
