Gauthier wins third trophy of the season at Sea Best Intercollegiate

Lousiane Gauthier won her third trophy of the season Tuesday with a co-championship performance at the Sea Best Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Florida.

Gauthier tied South Alabama's Mercedes Aldana for the top spot on the leaderboard at five-under-par. Gauthier captured her first victory of the season during the fall campaign at the Pat Bradley Invitational (-6) and her second at Diamante Intercollegiate (-15). Her worst finish in five events played has been a 15th-place effort in the fall opener. Gauthier entered the spring season ranked No. 135 in the nation.

The junior entered the day tied for sixth after back-to-back rounds of 71 on Monday. She carded a three-under 69 Tuesday to soar up the leaderboard. On Tuesday, Gauthier wrote in back-to-back birdies on holes No. 1 and 2, followed by two more birdies on holes No. 12 and 17. Her only blemish Tuesday was a double-bogey on a 510-yard, par-5 hole 11.

As a team, FGCU placed sixth at 11-over-par. FGCU closed two strokes below tournament host and fellow ASUN member Jacksonville, but nine strokes ahead of seventh-place Stetson, another ASUN foe. Florida took home the team title at seven-under. The Eagles' best round of the event came in the second stanza, a 287. FGCU recorded a 293 in the opening round and closed the two-day event with a 295.

The next closest Eagle on the player leaderboard was Posie Farrelly. She tied for 13th with back-to-back rounds of 71, stepping into the clubhouse at one-over-par. Islay Benoit finished T30 at seven-over.

FGCU returns to the course March 4-6 overseas in Las Palmas, Puerto Rico, for the Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Ball State University.
