TAMPA, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University men's soccer earned their first point of the season Friday with a 3-3 draw against USF. Senior captain
Lucas Windschauer scored his first collegiate goal, and
Addrian Knights-Browne scored his first goal for the Eagles while adding an assist to his game record.
"I thought we played really well, hard and together," head coach
Jesse Cormier said. "We proved that when we have unity we show a key element of our identity and that we can achieve a lot. This is good preparation for us heading into ASUN play and a good result against a good team."
The Bulls got the scoring going in the 19
th minute to take a 1-0 lead before
Shoki Yoshida answered to bring the score level. Yoshida scored by way of a deflection from a
Beltran Alvarez shot off a cross from Knights-Browne. USF answered in the next minute to take the lead and ended a 62-second flurry of three goals.
The match would enter the half with USF leading 2-1, but the Green and Blue came out spirited from halftime talk and took the lead back 3-2.
Knights-Browne scored the first goal of the half when he redirected a ball off the foot of
Arber Shala. Less than four minutes later, Windschauer got his head to a corner delivered by
Job Choute.
The Bulls would tie it up with a goal in the 67th minute, leading to the 3-3 draw. Alvarez recorded two assists and Knights-Browne led the team with three points.
The Eagles return to Fort Myers for their home opener Sunday against Utah Valley at 7 p.m. The match will not be streamed, but tickets can be purchased at the link above.
