FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University men's soccer will host Utah Valley University on Sunday for its regular season home opener at 7 p.m. The match will not be streamed. Tickets for the home opener can be purchased at the link above. Before Sunday's home opener, FGCU will travel to Tampa, Florida, for a road match at USF.
The Eagles have started the season 0-3. The season began with two 1-0 losses in North Carolina against Elon and NC State where the winning goals were conceded with 46 seconds and 1 minute 55 seconds left on the clock. FGCU's third loss came in Statesboro, Georgia, to Georgia Southern, 2-0. This match marked the first loss for FGCU in the FGCU-Georgia Southern series.
Utah Valley is 2-0-1 heading into Thursday. The Wolverines have only played teams from California so far this year with road matches against Sacramento State (W, 3-1) and UC Davis (T, 2-2). UVU hosted UC San Diego, winning 3-1. The match against FGCU will mark the end of a Florida road swing where they play Florida Atlantic Thursday and FGCU on Sunday.
USF is a frequent opponent for FGCU, having played each other every year since 2009, except for the COVID-impacted year. The Eagles are 4-5-6 all-time against the Bulls. The previous six matches have resulted in four ties and one win a side. USF is 1-1-2 on the year, but 0-1-2 against Division I opponents. USF has hosted all but one match so far this year.
This two-game stretch is unique as it is the only guaranteed stretch of two games in three days. However, if FGCU qualifies for ASUN conference tournament as a 3-6 seed, the Eagles will face the same test to start the conference tournament should they advance to the second round.
Following the home opener, FGCU travels to High Point University before returning home for conference play against Jacksonville on Sept. 21.
