Eagles open ASUN play against Jacksonville

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University will begin Atlantic Sun Conference play on Saturday with a match against Jacksonville at 6 p.m. at Pickering Field. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ and tickets can be purchased at the link above. Students in attendance will be entered in for a TV giveaway. To be entered, students must claim their ticket prior to 6 p.m. The first 60 stufents in attendance will also receive a FGCU soccer scarf by claiming it at the marketing table.

The Eagles enter ASUN play 0-5-1, but no team in the conference has a winning record in men's soccer. Jacksonville is 1-3-2 so far this year. FGCU has played two teams currently ranked in the coaches poll top 25 in Elon (No. 14) and NC State (No. 18) while the Dolphins have faced only one currently ranked team, College of Charleston (No. 23) but South Carolina is receiving votes.

The two teams have faced each other 20 times with the Green and Blue having the edge in the lifetime series 13-5-2. The Eagles were on a 12-match winning streak until 2020. Since then the Dolphins have the edge in the series 2-1-2.

FGCU's leading point scorer is Addrian Knights-Browne with three points (one goal, one assist). Oliver Weng has been minding the net with 21 saves on the season.

Jacksonville is led by the tandem of Cristobal Molina-Campo and Oscar Resano, each with four points from two goals. Christian Sekanina has been the lone goalkeeper for the Dolphins with 24 saves on the year.

Following this game, FGCU heads on the road to face Stetson before returning home for two games in the same week against Keiser (Oct. 2) and North Florida (Oct.5). Tickets can be purchased at the link above.
