FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University forward
Keeshawn Kellman has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, paving the way for his second year of action for FGCU men's basketball.
"We are beyond excited," said FGCU head coach
Pat Chambers. "There's so many thank you's to go around. Our former compliance director Katelyn Skarr is the one who really resurrected it when we thought it was done. She was phenomenal. Associate head coach
Kyle Griffin
was amazing. Keeshawn and his family have been great. Princeton University and their staff, their coach, and their compliance office just did a great job of supporting it. The fact we were able to get the waiver and he's coming back for another year is huge for our program."
An Allentown, Pennsylvania native, Kellman played 10 games at Princeton in 2019-20 for a total of 45:50. In the 2021-22 season, Kellman played in eight games and 65:57. In the 2022-23 campaign at Princeton, Kellman appeared in all 32 games.
At FGCU, Kellman would flourish. Playing and starting in all 32 games, Kellman hit on 68.4 percent of his shots from the field, good for second-best among all NCAA D-I players. He would be an ASUN Newcomer of the Week Feb. 26 after averaging 17.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest. Kellman finished third on the team in points per game (12.2) and led the team in rebounds per contest (7.0).
"For my last year, I want to win an [Atlantic Sun Conference] championship, obviously, and at the same time, continue to build great connections with my teammates and with the surrounding FGCU community," Kellman said. "I just want to try to get better and set myself up for my future."
Kellman is completing his Master's in Entrepreneurship at FGCU. "It'll help me learn how to not only manage my money, but also, how to use it in ways where you get more money out of it too. Everywhere you look, there's opportunity. That's the entrepreneurial mindset."
The Eagles will begin their 2024-25 season in November.
