FGCU welcomes Northern Kentucky transfer Khamari Mitchell-Steen

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball and head coach Karl Smesko welcomed its fifth incoming transfer to the 2024-25 roster, Khamari Mitchell-Steen from Northern Kentucky.

"Khamari is a competitive and physical guard who loves to attack the rim," Smesko said. "She has a knack for getting to the foul line. Khamari is also an elite defender who takes pride in guarding the other team's best offensive player. We are really excited about what she brings to our team."

Michhell-Steen joins fellow incoming transfers Skyar Gill (North Alabama/Kansas), Lauryn Taylor (Francis Marion), Alahna Paige (Daemen University) and Anna Mortag (Butler) to commit the winning tradition of FGCU.

Michhell-Steen played three seasons with the Norse and started in 30 games this past season as a junior, averaging 13.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game for second-best on the team. Michhell-Steen is a true offensive and defensive threat as she led Northern Kentucky in total steals (60) and blocks (20) en route to Horizon League Third Team Honors.

The postseason honor marked the second yearly award of her career as the native of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, was also named to the conference's All-Freshman Team in 2021-22.

The five-foot-seven shooter scored double figures in 19 contests during the 2023-24 campaign and dropped a season and career-high 30 points in a win over Wright State.

She finished her junior season fourth in the Horizon League in steals per game, sixth in assists per game, seventh in overall steals, eighth in scoring and 15th in blocked shots. Nationally, she ranked 13th in the country in free throw attempts with 203, shooting 66.5 from the line.

Michhell-Steen scored 842 points in her three-year career with Northern Kentucky, averaging 9.4 per game. In 90 career appearances, she tallied 89 official starts.
