FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University softball won the regular season finale against Kennesaw State University on Saturday, 5-0. The win secured the Eagles a four seed and a first round bye.
It was senior day for the Green and Blue with
Angelina Bonilla,
Riley Oakes,
Neely Peterson,
Ally Hulme,
Claire Maulding,
Meagan Ricks,
Avery Viancos,
Kayleigh Roper, and
McKenzie Wittenberg.
Bonilla entered the circle for FGCU on the day and continued her stellar senior campaign. She pitched the complete game only allowing four hits and striking out five.
The senior class was involved in all five runs scored on the day. In the first inning, Peterson doubled home Oakes before coming around to score herself on a
Tiffany Meek single.
The remaining runs were scored in the second inning. Ricks hit a sacrifice fly out to foul territory in right field, allowing
Sophie Wylie to tag from third and score.
Nikki Gibson brought home the final two runs for the Eagles on the day with a single that brought Emily Chairella and Viancos across the plate.
Up next for the Eagles is the ASUN Tournament on Wednesday. The Green and Blue will play the winner of the 5-8 matchup which is North Alabama-Austin Peay. If the Eagles win their first round game, they will play the number one seed EKU on Thursday.
