Florida Gulf Coast University piled up seven extra-base hits, including homers by
Mac Moise,
Javier Gorostola, and
Robert Moya, as the Eagles picked up an 11-2 victory over Lipscomb University to start an Atlantic Sun Conference baseball series Friday night in Nashville, Tenn.
The Eagles (20-20, 12-7 ASUN) snapped a three-game losing streak in a big way, holding a 9-1 lead after four innings as
Davian Garcia (3-2) and
Cameron Bye combined to hold the Bisons to five hits for the duration of the contest. Bye picked up the four-inning save after holding the home side scoreless for his outing.
FGCU started the game on the right foot as
Charles Davalan doubled and came home on Moise's seventh homer of the season, making it 2-0. Lipscomb (13-27, 9-10 ASUN) scored in the bottom of the first, but an inning later, Gorostola launched a two-out, solo homer over the wall in left to restore the lead to 3-1
The Eagles took control of the game with five runs in the third. After an RBI single with the bases loaded by
Jacob Lojewski made it 4-1,
Harrison Povey hit a bases clearing double off the wall in right, plating all three runs to make it 7-1. Povey would score one batter later as Moya singled him home to cap the inning.
In the fourth, FGCU tacked another run on the board.
Ian Farrow dumped a double into left field, plating Davalan who doubled to start the inning. Lipscomb would plate a run in the fifth, with Garcia leaving after the inning. Bye would enter, holding the Bisons in check while becoming the beneficiary of two insurance runs.
Evan Dempsey would triple down the line in right to score Farrown in the sixth, then Moya ended the scoring for the night with a solo blast.
Davalan finished the night with three doubles. The freshman joined Moise and Farrow with two runs scored in the game, with the next five batters in the order each being credited with a run scored.
The two teams will be back in action Saturday in Nashville at a newly-scheduled time of 3 p.m. EDT.
