Jacob Lojewski had a pair of RBI for Florida Gulf Coast University, but three multi-run innings allowed UCF to come away with a 10-3 victory in non-conference baseball action Tuesday night in Orlando, Fla.
The Eagles (19-20) took an early lead as Lojewski singled to left to bring home
Charles Davalan with the first run in the first inning. UCF (25-13) would answer back with a two-run home half of the frame to gain the lead. After a single run in the third, a three-run fourth put the Knights ahead 6-1.
FGCU would be held off the scoreboard until the eighth inning when the Eagles plated another run but left the bases loaded. With two men out,
Harrison Povey singled and
Robert Moya walked. After a four-pitch walk to
Javier Gorostola,
Derek Lopez would draw another walk on four-straight out of the zone to make it 6-2. That would be the final run of the inning as a strikeout ended a seven-pitch at bat and left the pads full. UCF would answer back with four in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-2.
In the ninth, a walk to Davalan and a double by
Ian Farrow gave the Eagles a flicker of hope, but the only run would cross when Davalan scored on Lojewski's ground out. UCF would take a 10-3 win in the only meeting between the two schools this season.
Jake Bunz (1-2) took the loss after allowing three runs in 2.1 innings.
Nick Love,
Derek Crum, and
Anthony Ursitti each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for FGCU in defeat.
The Eagles will be back in action this Friday in Nashville, Tenn., as they start a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference set at Lipscomb University. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
