FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University softball will return to the FGCU Softball Complex for the lone April home series when they host the Stetson University Hatters.
The Eagles have continued to dominate from the circle.
Claire Maulding currently leads the ASUN in conference play WHIP at just 0.52. The four pitchers who have pitched in conference play all have ERAs below two, no other team in the ASUN has more than two.
Angelina Bonilla and
Allison Sparkman continue to lead the staff statistically. Sparkman has a 1.19 ERA and is ranked 11th in the nation.
Angelina Bonilla has a 1.24 ERA and is ranked 14th in the nation, Bonilla, Sparkman, Maulding,
Ally Hulme, and
Marina Tinari have all pitched this season for the Eagles, leading to the 12th best team ERA in the country.
Avery Viancos has been exceptional in ASUN play. She sports a 0.400 batting average, good for fifth in conference play.
Viancos and
Olivia Black have been trading off at the top of the lineup. Black has a 0.425 on base percentage and has stolen nine bases in conference play.
The Hatters are towards the bottom of the ASUN in a few statistics. Stetson in the bottom three in conference in fielding percentage, ERA, hits allowed, home runs allowed, opponent batting average, and hit batters.
Stetson's best stat is batting average (0.253) only 0.004 ahead of FGCU.
This series is key for the Green and Blue as the 2024 ASUN Conference Championship. The Eagles are currently tied for second with UNF and own the tiebreaker. The remaining schedule for FGCU is Stetson (home), Austin Peay (road), and Kennesaw State (home) who are all currently not qualified for the ASUN Conference Championships. The Ospreys play Jacksonville, EKU, and Stetson. Jacksonville is currently fourth in the ASUN and EKU is first.
EKU is three games ahead of the Green and Blue and the two teams do not face each other in the regular season. The one and two seeds get the double bye into the second day of conference championship play.
