Eagles drop in narrow 4-3 loss at Stetson

Florida Gulf Coast University's women's tennis team dropped a narrow 4-3 decision at Stetson University Wednesday in DeLand, Florida.

Stetson remains undefeated in conference action and holds the top spot while the Eagles are currently in third. Both teams have already clinched a spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships.

The ladies competed hard today but Stetson came out the winner," said FGCU head women's tennis coach Courtney Vernon. "We are looking forward to preparing for the conference championship next week."

The Green & Blue (11-9, 6-3 ASUN) lost the doubles point to begin the day but Isabella Colmenares evened the score with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court No. 2.

The Hatters (12-6, 9-0 ASUN) retook the lead when Paloma Goldsmith dropped her match 6-2, 6-2 on court No. 3. FGCU would not go away so easily as Jordana Ossa tied the match 2-2, winning 6-3, 6-3 on court No. 4.

SU got the advantage again as Amelia Kopel fell 6-2, 7-5 on court No. 6. Ida Ferding pushed through three sets but ultimately was defeated 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 as the Hatters clinched the match.
