FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University's No. 1 pair of
Shelby Beisner and
Trinity Rosales won the Atlantic Sun Conference Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week award Wednesday.
This is the first time this season Beisner and Rosales have won the honor and third time overall in their career. It's the Green & Blue's third weekly award this season and the 10th in program history.
"Trinity and Shelby have been playing together for three years and these last couple of weeks, you can really see the chemistry and experience in big moments," said FGCU head beach volleyball coach
Chris Sweat. "They have played some of the best teams in the country and won some very exciting games. I can't wait to watch them the rest of season continue to grow as a team."
Beisner and Rosales had a stellar weekend at the highly competitive Georgia State Invitational going 4-0 and defeating three nationally ranked pairs. The pair got to work Friday morning by defeating No. 15 GSU's No. 1 pair 22-20, 19-21, 16-14 to help the Eagles deliver a 3-2 win over the Panthers for the first time in program history.
A few hours later, the pair won 21-17, 21-17 against the University of Southern Mississippi.
On Saturday the pair could not be stopped as they defeated No. 17 Stetson's No. 1 duo 21-19, 21-17 in the morning before returning in the evening to upset No. 8 LSU's No. 1 pair of Gabi Bailey and Ellie Shank 25-23, 26-28, 15-12.
Beisner and Rosales were the only pair out of the four teams LSU played during the tournament that defeated Bailey and Shank.
The Green & Blue will return to action Saturday at the FAU Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. taking on No. 18 Florida Atlantic at 11:30 a.m. and No. 16 Stetson at 4 p.m.
