FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University beach volleyball was awarded the AVCA Team Academic Award Monday, earning Honor Roll distinction for ranking in the top 20 percent of GPAs nationally among Division I programs.
"With the rigorous work that all these athletes put in the classroom, combined with the amazing support they have with their academic advisors, our program continues to grow academically more and more every year," head coach Chris Sweat said. "Academics is something else they all take seriously, and I'm very proud of all these athletes for earning these accolades."
FGCU was one of 11 Division I programs represented on the AVCA Honor Roll list. Three programs from the Atlantic Sun Conference earned the honor, making up 27 percent of the winning teams as Austin Peay and Jacksonville also joined FGCU on the list.
The Eagles posted a cumulative 3.77 GPA during the 2024–25 academic year, the highest of any team in the FGCU athletic department. Four student-athletes recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs during the spring semester.
On the sand in the spring, FGCU tallied 22 wins and a season-high nine-match winning streak that transitioned into conference play. The Eagles notched four victories over top-15 opponents and reached the ASUN Semifinals following a 6-2 record in regular-season action. FGCU closed the memorable 2025 campaign ranked No. 18 in the final AVCA Top 20 poll.
Four Eagles earned All-ASUN honors in 2025, and Sweat was named the ASUN Coach of the Year. First-year standout Alexis Keeter was named the ASUN Freshman of the Year. ASUN First Team honoree Kaitlyn Luebbers broke the FGCU beach volleyball program record for career wins with 93.
Senior Jaci Carpenter took home the ASUN Scholar-Athlete and Female Athlete of the Year awards. Carpenter also earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American honors.
