Eagles back at Swanson to open series Friday

FORT MYERS, Fla. - After a brief trip north for a Wednesday contest, Florida Gulf Coast University's baseball team will be back at Swanson Stadium Friday night to open a three-game series against Fairfield University. First pitch is set for 6:30.

The Eagles (4-8) are looking to build momentum for the Atlantic Sun Conference schedule that starts next weekend. FGCU won its last home game in dramatic fashion, 5-4, over Xavier. Charles Davalan led the bottom of the ninth off with a solo homer to tie the game, then after a walk to Ian Farrow, a double to the gap in left center by Robert Moya scored Farrow with the walk-off winner.

In Wednesday's contest, the Eagles dropped a 19-3 decision to Florida State. Davalan and Farrow led the game off with back-to-back homers to stake the Eagles to the lead.

Fairfield (1-10) earned a 19-5 win at Saint Joseph's to snap a 10-game losing streak to open the season. The Stags are picked to finish first in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference this season.

Saturday's game between the two teams is slated for 2:00 p.m., with Sunday's contest set for a noon start.
