Box Score Charles Davalan and
Ian Farrow led off the game with back-to-back homers, but Florida Gulf Coast University couldn't hold the early lead as Florida State University took a 19-3 win Wednesday afternoon in Tallahassee, Fla.
FGCU (4-8) scored its first two runs three pitches into the game. Davalan, who homered in the ninth inning of Sunday's final against Xavier, made it homers in consecutive at-bats as he ripped a 1-0 offering over the fence in right to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead. On the next pitch, Farrow went yard to right to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
FSU (11-0) loaded the bases with no one out in the home half of the inning, but starting pitcher
Derek Crum got out of it with just one run scoring, preserving the FGCU lead. Neither team scored in the second, but FSU would tack on a pair in the third and wouldn't trail again.
The Eagles would manufacture a run in the sixth.
Dalton Robinson walked and Davalan singled to put two runners on. After a wild pitch moved the runners up,
Robert Moya lifted a sacrifice foul out to right field to plate Robinson and bring the Eagles closer.
Crum (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs in three innings of work.
Evan Dempsey,
Connor O'Hara, and
Dylan Wolff combined to pitch three scoreless innings.
FGCU will be back in action Friday night at Swanson Stadium as it takes on Fairfield University. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
