Florida Gulf Coast University softball secured the victory in the final game of the USF Tournament in Tampa, Fla., 7-3, against Central Michigan on Monday.
Nikki Gibson homered to cap a four-run first inning and
Sophie Wylie recorded her first collegiate hit and RBI on the day.
The Eagles came out hot in the first inning putting up a four-run first inning. The scoring started when
Riley Oakes scored on a throwing error by the CMU catcher.
Neely Peterson added another RBI to her total bringing
Meagan Ricks home before Gibson cleared the bases with a two-run shot to left field to bring
McKenzie Wittenberg home.
Ricks brought home two more in the second with an RBI double to bring home
Emily Chiarella and Wylie, bringing the score to 6-0. Wylie continued the scoring with her first collegiate RBI in the third by way of a double to left field on the first pitch.
On the mound, Aneglina Bonilla continued to deal, going 6.1 innings and striking out eight.
With the victory, the Eagles extend their win streak to 36 games when scoring at least six runs.
Up next for the Green and Blue is a split doubleheader against Western Michigan and Sacred Heart.
