Eagles split doubleheader against Bisons

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University softball split the doubleheader against Lipscomb University on Friday with a 4-0 win in the first game.

Incredible Eagles pitching continued to shine in tonight's doubleheader. Angelina Bonilla was in the circle for the first game and threw a complete game, allowing only three hits.

Allison Sparkman got the start in the second game and earned her 13th straight appearance with a game ERA of 1.75 or lower. Sparkman went four innings before handing the ball over to Claire Maulding who went the final three innings going perfect in the three innings.

The scoring started in the second for the Eagles. Avery Viancos was on second and Meagan Ricks was on third when Madison Carr reached on an error by the third baseman giving the Green and Blue an early 2-0 lead.

Sophie Wylie followed it up with a chopper that found a weak spot in the defense that she legged out for a double, scoring Camryn Feast and giving FGCU a 3-0 lead.

The final run of the game came on a triple by Viancos when she slapped a ball under the shortstop's diving glove followed by a diving left fielder coming up empty handed. With the ball rolling to the wall, Ricks was able to round the bases, giving FGCU the 4-0 lead.

Four runs was more than enough for Bonilla who was dealing from the circle, securing the complete game victory.

FGCU 2, Lipscomb 3

The second game came down to the fourth inning. The score was tied at one with one out and runners on second and third.

A weak grounder proved problematic for the Eagles defense, allowing two unearned runs to score.

Riley Oakes clawed a run back in the fifth with a single to left field but it wasn't enough to secure the comeback.

Up next is the series finale against Lipscomb on Saturday.
