Florida Gulf Coast University dropped the opening game of an Atlantic Sun Conference baseball series to Queens University of Charlotte 10-0 (7) Thursday night in Charlotte, N.C.
The Eagles (11-13, 4-3 ASUN) were hurt by errors as the team committed four in the game, leading to four unearned runs. FGCU also struggled to string hits together as the team managed just three, in addition to drawing four walks.
It was just a 1-0 game until the fourth inning when Queens (6-19, 2-5 ASUN) pushed six runs across the plate. After a single run in the fifth, the Royals ended the game with two runs in the seventh to reach the 10-run threshold.
Derek Crum (0-2) struck out six batters in the start on the mound, allowing three earned runs over 3.1 innings.
The two teams will be back in action Friday at 2 p.m.
