Robert Moya homered twice, including a game-tying two-run shot in the top of the eighth, but Florida Gulf Coast University fell 6-4 to Queens University of Charlotte in Atlantic Sun Conference baseball action from Charlotte, North Carolina Friday afternoon.
The Eagles (11-14, 4-4 ASUN) trailed 1-0 after one, but Moya's first homer of the game tied the score an inning later. His shot to center on a 1-0 offering went for a solo blast to tie the game up at 1-all.
FGCU would trail 3-1 in the fifth when
Mac Moise struck for a deep blast. His leadoff homer on a 1-0 pitch cut the deficit in half, 3-2. Queens would extend the lead to 4-2 in the sixth, but Moya would come up big for the Eagles again in the eighth. When two men out and
Harrison Povey on first after a single, Moya connected for a no-doubt shot to right to tie the game back up once again, 4-4.
The bottom of the eighth would be FGCU's undoing. After a double and a pair of walks loaded the bases with one out, a sacrifice fly and a single plated the go-ahead runs to give the Royals (7-19, 3-5 ASUN) a 6-4 lead. The Eagles would get the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but a double play would end the contest.
Chase Kriebel allowed three runs in four innings to start on the mound for the Eagles.
Dalton Robinson allowed a run in 1.1 innings of work, with
Davian Garcia (1-2) allowing two runs in 2.2 innings.
The two teams will wrap up the series Saturday at 1 p.m.
