Eagles fly to Queens for ASUN series

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University will look to get back on track Thursday as the Eagles open up an Atlantic Sun Conference baseball series against Queens University of Charlotte. First pitch in Charlotte, North Carolina is set for 6 p.m.

The Eagles (11-12, 4-2 ASUN) dropped two out of three at Kennesaw State University last weekend. FGCU won the middle game of the series with a two run rally in the ninth inning to capture the 2-1 victory. Despite five runs scored by Harrison Povey in Sunday's game, the Eagles would drop a 14-13 decision to the Owls in the rubber game.

Getting off to a strong start on the mound is going to be pivotal to the Eagles in the series. Over the three games of the KSU series, FGCU was outscored 10-1 in the first inning of the games. The starter that got off to the best start for the Eagles last weekend was Chase Kriebel, who gave up just a lone first inning run over seven innings of work in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Kriebel is scheduled to get the start Friday afternoon in the second game of the series, with Derek Crum moving from a midweek starting role to the opening slot in the first game of the series Thursday. Saturday's starter is yet to be determined.

Queens (5-19, 1-5 ASUN) won its first league game of the season with a 22-12 victory over Austin Peay State University. The 22 runs by the Royals in the game were the most for the program in the school's Division I history. The win also snapped a 10-game losing streak. Landry Jurecka is slated to get the start Thursday night, with Carson Magill set to go Friday.

Each game of the series will be streamed via ESPN+.
