Florida Gulf Coast University softball traveled to Jacksonville on Sunday to face Jacksonville University for the first road ASUN games of the year. The Eagles beat the Dolphins in both games by scores of 7-1 and 4-2.
Angelina Bonilla nearly pitched her second no-hitter of the year when she carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning.
Allison Sparkman also continued her fabulous freshman season having a perfect game after three complete.
Neely Peterson went 3-for-6 on the day with a home run, three RBI, and two walks.
FGCU 7, JU 1
The scoring started early in the first game when Peterson launched a ball over the wall with a runner on to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead.
The third inning was a case study in 2024 FGCU softball where speed and patience at the plate pays off.
Riley Oakes singled to center before stealing second and advancing on a throwing error by the Jacksonville catcher followed by a
Tiffany Meek RBI to bring the score to 3-0.
Peterson was next up to the plate, drawing a walk.
Meagan Ricks would be the next Eagle to draw a walk leading to a bases loaded opportunity for
Kayleigh Roper who was hit by the third pitch of the at bat giving FGCU a 4-0 lead.
The Green and Blue added three in the seventh to bring the total to seven for the game.
With a two-run lead before she even set foot in the circle, Bonilla would cruise to the complete game win, allowing zero earned runs.
FGCU 4, JU 2
Sparkman took the mound in this game and was tossing a gem, carrying a perfect game through three innings.Â
Roper got the scoring going in the fourth for the Eagles with a two-RBI single bringing home Ricks and
Nikki Gibson.
Ally Hulme took over in a tight, 2-1 game midway through the fifth and shut things down.
Olivia Black provided the needed insurance with an RBI single in the fifth and Peterson added on with an RBI single of her own in the seventh.
Up next for the Green and Blue is the series finale on Monday against Jacksonville.
