Florida Gulf Coast University softball dropped the series finale against Jacksonville University on Monday in Jacksonville, 4-2.
The Dolphins jumped out early to a four run lead by the second inning and the Eagles offense couldn't get going. The Green and Blue didn't have a hit or walk until the third inning when
Riley Oakes recorded a double down the left field line.
The Eagles offense once again used base running as a way of manufacturing runs when
Meagan Ricks and
Neely Peterson were on first and third, respectively. Ricks stole second base and a throwing error by the Jacksonville first baseman allowed both Peterson and Ricks to score.
However, hits were hard to come by for the Green and Blue as the only other hit for the Eagles was an
Avery Viancos single to third base.
Angelina Bonilla entered the circle for FGCU and a leadoff bunt single by the Dolphins got their offense going early. Bonilla bounced back after the second inning, only allowing two hits for the remaining five innings.
Uo next for the Eagles is a return to Fort Myers for a Friday-Saturday match up against Lipscomb.
