Florida Gulf Coast University's beach volleyball team competed against two of the top teams in the nation Tuesday in Boca Raton, Florida.

The Eagles (9-7) fell 5-0 against No. 4 Florida State University (13-0) before battling through a close 3-2 defeat versus No. 15 Florida Atlantic (9-4).

"We played two great teams today and they outplayed us when it mattered," said head coach Chris Sweat. "Brooke at FSU and Steve at FAU both showed why they have some of the top teams in the country. We are looking forward to a few good days of practice before playing TCU and FIU on Friday."
  
In the second match of the day for the Eagles Jaci Carpenter and Mia Thompson placed the Eagles on the scoreboard first with a 21-12, 22-20 victory on court No. 5. The Owls tied the match when Lilly Hafner and Sydney Majick dropped their match on court 4 after rallying for three sets.

FAU (8-5) took a 2-1 lead winning match No. 3 but Kacie Johnson and Emma Soncrant kept the Eagles flying with a 21-19, 22-20 win on court No. 2.

The match ultimately came down to No. 1 and the Owls prevailed defeating Trinity Rosales and Shelby Beisner 21-12, 24-22 on court No. 1.

The Eagles will next head to the FAU Beach Invitational in Pompano Beach to take on No. 5 TCU (11-1) at 1:30 p.m. and No. 12 FIU (11-2) at 2:50 p.m. Friday.
